Over 160 Filipino storytellers nationwide submitted entries for the campaign
The Technology Application and Promotion Institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) has announced the shortlist for the 4th edition of the Gawad Alunig x Dalumat (GAxD) campaign. The agency received nearly 200 entries from across the country following this edition’s new theme and mechanics.
Out of 70 submissions nationwide, 40 video clippings qualified as part of this edition’s Gawad Alunig short list. The contenders include videos from the National Capital Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Region I, Region III, Region IV-A, Region IV-B, Region V, Region VI, Region VII, Region VIII, Region X, Region XI, Region XII, Region XIII, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
These finalists were featured live on the DOST-TAPI Facebook page via the Pa-Siyensya Na GAxD Edition videocast. The pilot episode on January 9 was a staggering success with thousands of views and hundreds of people tuned in live.
During the livestream episodes, viewers participated in the live poll to give their favorite entry the chance to win the People’s Choice Award for Best Advertising Team in the Audio-Visual category. The most-voted Gawad Alunig Entries in each episode were posted on January 16, 1:00-5:00 PM, for another round of voting for the People’s Choice Award.
The Gawad Alunig People’s Choice winner will be determined after combining the online voting results (50%) and poll votes (50%). And, the winning team will take home PHP20,000.
Meanwhile, 34 photo essays were shortlisted out of the 93 submissions nationwide for the Gawad Dalumat. The featured innovations spanned key sectors, including disaster resilience and home safety, renewable and alternative energy, environmental monitoring and marine science, and sustainable agriculture. The Gawad Dalumat finalists are currently posted on the DOST-TAPI Facebook page using a curated layout.
The Gawad Dalumat People’s Choice Award will be determined through a combination of votes: 50% from online voting on DOST-TAPI’s Facebook page and 50% from physical votes cast during designated DOST events. The deadline for online voting was on January 12 (12 noon), and the winner will receive PHP10,000.
These GAxD submissions have been allowed to propel Filipino ingenuity on a nationwide scale. After shortlisting, candidates received an email confirmation, inviting them to encourage their friends and families to participate in voting for the People’s Choice Awards. More importantly, through this endeavor, the contest participants help bridge the featured innovations to DOST-TAPI’s ongoing programs, thereby opening opportunities for the featured innovators to avail of development and commercialization assistance.
The winners of the fourth edition of the GAxD campaign will be announced at DOST-TAPI’s 39th anniversary celebration on January 30, 2026. The grand prize winners will receive cash prizes (PHP75,000 for Gawad Alunig and PHP60,000 for Gawad Dalumat), medals, and certificates. The official venue will be shared via DOST-TAPI digital platforms.
