Drop resistance, water resistance, and the structure behind them
"Durable." "Rugged." "Water-resistant." Those words sit on nearly every phone box, making them almost useless for telling one device from another. The more useful questions, however, are: how durable can a phone actually be built, how much does a person need, and what does the extra engineering cost versus replacing a cracked or water-logged phone a year early?
The REDMI Note 17 Series, launched locally in September this year, is a useful case because its durability is unusually specific. Rather than one "tough phone" claim, Xiaomi splits it into a package it calls Titan Durability, aimed at the three things that actually end a phone's life: drops, water, and everyday wear. The four models; the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, REDMI Note 17 5G, and standard REDMI Note 17 don't carry the same level of it, and the differences are where the concept becomes concrete.
