Yahoo! Celebrity Awards and KakaoTalk Celebrate the Philippines’ Biggest Stars

More than 1.3 million Fan Votes Cast using Popular Mobile Social Messenger

KakaoTalk, along with the official Yahoo website, served as one of the main fan-voting platforms for the 2014 Yahoo! Celebrity Awards, as the free, fast and fun messenger app replaced SMS as the primary mobile channel for fans to voice their opinions.

The event, held July 18th at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, has annually been one of the largest entertainment/broadcast award shows in the Philippines.

For 2014, a total of 1,336,929 fans voted using KakaoTalk, showing a nearly 276% increase compared to last year’s SMS voting figures.

The night’s big honorees included Kim Chiu for Celebrity of the Year, JhaBea for Celebrity Couple of the Year, Vice Ganda for Social Media Star of the Year, and Bride for Rent for Movie of the Year.

KakaoTalk is also brought its popular Kakao Friends characters to life at the awards ceremony through an exclusive gaming booth featuring the Angry Tube Game. Yahoo! Celebrity Awards attendees got the opportunity to try out the new game by simply going to the booth, showing their KakaoTalk app on their smartphones and registering their KakaoTalk ID. Participants received exclusive gifts for reaching certain milestones, and a lucky fan won a free iPad Mini by recording the high score of the night.
