Android P has been finally revealed! and according to its alphabetical order, it is now labeled under the letter P and it is as simple as PIE!. After the roll-out of Oreo, we noticed a decline of interest with the new OS for android, which might be because there is a growing number of manufacture-based OS based on the current one. But nevertheless, we are still pretty excited what Android P has to offer.
With the trend of the interface going simpler yet functional, the new OS aims to be more efficient with its features but will that improve processing speeds or battery? Also wil it also be much more different from its predecessor?
Let's check on the key functions of Android P.
Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness
- smart use of power for priority functions which saves a lot in battery life and light use.
App Actions
-Predicts what you’ll want to do next based on your context and displays that action right on your phone.
Single Home Button
-less buttons to prevent accidental pushing and causing chaos on your phone.
Slices
-Because it is Pie, it has "slices" which shows partial app functions, something like a shortcut to usual functions without opening the entire app.
Redesigned Quick Settings
-Promises more user-friendly experience with functions ready for adjustments
Smart Text Selection
-better recognition that helps reduce time in what to do with selected texts in the apps that you use.
New Dashboard
-Now tells you how long you send your time on your device and probably drives guilt feel if you spend too much time.
App Timer
-Partnered with the previous function to tell you "You are almost 24 hours on Facebook", which is yeah, we all need someone to tell us to stop.
Wind Down
-Probably my favorite because it switches the Night Light and Do Not Disturb and fades the screen to grayscale before bedtime. Thus reminding us that we do need to sleep.
Though it is not as big change whole interface, rather focuses on the functionality of certain things commonly used and made them more reliable and convenient. Though its simplistic interface has already done a lot, these culmination of functions may do our devices a better performance beyond the design changes.
Android P will be rolling out in Pixel phones this year along with the return of (prodigal) Android One.
