Reading the Fine Print on Why Ink Tank Printers Are a Better Choice

If you have ever noticed messages in work and marketing emails encouraging you to consider the environment before printing, you are well aware of the perception that printing output, and its associated hardware, produce waste that finds its way into landfills. Paper waste alone makes up between 7% and 23% of municipal solid waste depending on whether it is a low-, middle-, or high-income country.

While printer energy consumption, paper waste, ink usage, and cartridge replacement have an environmental impact, consumers may be largely unaware of the advances that have been made to reduce the printer output, materials and accessories that find its way to landfills. Consumers in Asia Pacific are becoming more conscious of whether the products they are buying are green, or clean, as their sustainability sophistication grows in each market. Businesses are also devising ways to achieve more circular models to encourage responsible production and consumption. Home printers, in particular, have received some tech-based enhancements in recent years that are making it possible to print freely.

Epson Earns a Platinum Rating for Sustainability from EcoVadis for Second Successive Year

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, “Epson”) has earned its second successive platinum rating for sustainability from France-based EcoVadis. The platinum rating, which was established in 2020, indicates that Epson was ranked among the top 1% of companies in the industry. Epson had received a gold rating the previous three years.

The platinum rating was awarded in recognition of Epson’s global sustainability initiatives. In the four themes assessed by EcoVadis, Epson received high scores for the environment, sustainable procurement, labor and human rights, and ethics, putting it in the top 1% of companies in the industry.

Epson Global President Yasunori Ogawa said, "We’ve put solving issues in society, and especially achieving sustainability, at the heart of Epson’s corporate vision and business strategy. It’s a tremendous honor to receive this Platinum rating for the second successive year. In addition to setting ambitious goals to achieve our Environmental Vision of becoming carbon negative and underground resource free by 2050, we are continuing to implement measures to ensure good governance and social responsibility across our supply chain, including acquiring RBA certification at some of our key manufacturing plants. Most of all, however, I believe this Platinum rating communicates that to our customers Epson is a company that can be trusted, is determined to achieve sustainability and will fulfill its responsibility as a good corporate citizen.”

Digital Label Printing is Emerging to Support On-Demand Businesses

Changes reshaping the global economy are having a greater impact on businesses today than ever before. Companies, particularly in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage sectors, need to be able to shift gears at a moment’s notice to meet new market demands, regulatory changes in each market they operate in, and customer expectations. This means that labels not only need to set brands apart and clearly display their values, but also convey important supply chain-related information and classification markers required by regulators.

To be successful in this environment, agility is a coveted capability for companies and every aspect of business operations needs to be able to respond seamlessly. These changes also can’t come at the expense of sales or operational efficiency. Digital label printing is emerging to produce labels with crisp, clear, easy-to-read text and vibrant, true-to-color graphics on-demand to build more flexibility and speed into the business.

Inkjet Versus Laser Printers: Which Wins Out in Sustainability and Efficiency?

If you are in the market for a new printer, the debate about whether to choose an inkjet or laser model has raged for decades. Picking a clear winner in this head-to-head match-up is not as clear cut as ranking coffee versus tea. Key factors such as what the printer will be used for, frequency of use and budget will determine which model meets your business’ needs. However, long-held notions about which printers are better for which tasks are being upended.

Laser printers have traditionally been the “go to” office printer, but there are signs that the tide could be changing on the ground. The latest inkjet printers are delivering better energy efficient performance than ever before at a lower cost and with less waste, creating a more sustainable printing ecosystem. Inkjet printers are also extremely versatile and are capable of producing top quality prints on various types of paper.

The Current Digital Technology Space : Where Does Photo Printing Fit In?

In today’s ever-changing technology space, many have wondered about how the advent of digital would affect the photo printing market. Digital cameras have become ubiquitous, even as the functionality of mobile phone cameras has increased dramatically and social media platforms improve their photo sharing capabilities. Would all of these concurrent developments mark the end of photo printing? Although these changes have had a substantial impact on retail photo processing centres, there is still room for photo print providers to grow. According to Keypoint Intelligence’s most recent Value of Print Forecast, roughly 24.3 million square meters of photos will be printed on a global basis by 2023.

Epson: Enabling Communication with Precise Digital Printing

Although printing has been around for centuries, quality reproduction stems from a variety of technological innovations that have come together to deliver today’s high-impact prints. Epson’s strongest advancements in this area include its PrecisionCore MicroTFP printhead and its UltraChrome inks.

Digital printing has enabled the transition from monochrome printing to high-quality color images. The technology for inkjet printing systems has improved dramatically over the past decade, and this is driving full-color printing to new heights. Today’s newest color printers typically use the CMYK color profile, and Epson’s SureColor SC-T5430M wireless printer is one such example.
