KodeGo teams up with the iPeople network to develop students' digital skills for today’s fast-growing tech careers

917Ventures’ edutech platform KodeGo has entered into a partnership with higher education institutions under iPeople, a Yuchengco-Ayala Education collaboration to equip students with relevant, industry-ready skills in high-demand digital fields.

The initiative called "KodeGo Edu-Connect" brings together schools such as Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (MMCL), and the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) to help bridge the gap between traditional academic learning and real-world digital skills needed by today’s employers.

"This strategic alliance underscores a mutual commitment to fostering educational excellence and professional readiness,” said Mark Abalos, Head of Dual Transformation, Strategy and Business Development at iPeople.

“By merging KodeGo's dynamic, tech-driven programs with iPeople’s rich academic tradition, the partnership not only enhances the student learning experience but also contributes to the development of a skilled and versatile workforce ready to meet the demands of an evolving job market,” he added.

The Philippines is on track towards becoming a US$35 billion economy by 2025. But even with the promising outlook, the country’s workforce remains challenged by a digital skills gap that hampers its transformation into a truly digital nation. 

According to the 2023 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), the Philippines ranked 59th out of 64 countries in overall digital competitiveness, showing low rankings on knowledge and talent (63rd), technology (51st), and future readiness (59th). This underscores an urgent need to prioritize digital skills development to ensure the country's digital competitiveness and sustainable growth.

KodeGo, a startup under Globe’s corporate venture builder, 917Ventures, secured  SG$30,000 and landed a spot in the top six finalists of the recently concluded 2021 Singtel Group Future Makers Program. 

Singtel Group Future Makers, Singtel’s regional social innovation and capacity building program aims to support promising social impact start-ups with innovative technology solutions that help address social and healthcare challenges faced by the vulnerable in society. This year, the program sought to identify high potential start-ups with the ability to foster shared value opportunities with regional partners to create impactful social and business solutions for people and the markets that the Singtel Group operates in.

917Ventures’ KodeGo helps upskill Filipino software engineers

KodeGo, 917Ventures’ new web development educational bootcamp, aims to raise the calibre of Filipino software engineers and address unemployment gaps in the country.

The venture aims to produce front-end, back-end, or full-stack web developers through extensive hands-on experience, peer-programming, and building real-world projects.

“We want to produce great innovators, so we equip our students to become frontrunners in digital transformation through web development essentials, client-side and server-side programming, server hosting, activities and real-world projects as well as career development,” said Joshua Sta. Ana, KodeGo Venture Builder.

After completing the three-month online course, the graduates of the tech school are referred to partner companies including Globe and other subsidiaries of the Ayala Group of Companies to help fill thousands of job positions for software engineers.
