Globe accelerates 5G deployment with 256 new sites, expands global roaming presence

Globe continues to lead the charge in 5G technology deployment across the Philippines, successfully rolling out 256 new 5G sites for the first half of the year, as it solidifies its role as a driving force in the country’s digital transformation.

With this latest build, Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region (NCR) now reaches an impressive 98.45%. While in key cities across Visayas and Mindanao, Globe achieved a 5G outdoor coverage rate of 94.19%, underscoring its commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to more people, no matter where they are.

The 5G coverage expansion underscores Globe's ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of digital connectivity and empower Filipinos with faster, more reliable internet services.

In June 2024, Globe registered over 7 million devices connected to Globe's 5G network, a clear indicator of the growing demand for high-speed mobile data and the company’s ability to meet that demand.

Globe launches VoLTE Roaming in Asia-Pacific, USA

Eyes expansion to more destinations in Q3

Mobile leader Globe has launched its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) roaming capabilities, commencing with partners across Asia and the US. This innovative solution ensures that Globe customers can enjoy uninterrupted high-quality voice calls and text messaging even as foreign networks phase out their legacy 2G and 3G infrastructure.

As of July, Globe has brought VoLTE roaming to key destinations like Japan via Softbank, Australia via Optus, Hong Kong via CSL, Taiwan via Taiwan Mobile, Macau via CTM,  and T-Mobile & AT&T in the USA.

Italy is also in the pipeline via TIM and Wind.

VoLTE allows users to leverage LTE networks for high-definition voice calls, texts, and simultaneous mobile data usage without relying on older technologies. It provides uninterrupted connectivity, faster call setup, and the ability to use voice and data concurrently - all at no extra cost beyond regular roaming rates.

Globe offers free Roaming services to Filipinos in Taiwan following powerful quake

Globe is offering free connectivity support, including roaming call, text and data services, to Filipinos in Taiwan following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Wednesday morning.

To help them get in touch with loved ones or make emergency calls, Globe postpaid and prepaid customers and TM users currently using roaming services in Taiwan will get free 15 minutes of incoming and outgoing calls, 15 texts to all networks, and 1GB data (whichever service is currently available) good for 7 days at no extra cost.

To avail of the free roaming service, Globe and TM customers only need to connect to Globe’s roaming partners Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom. The free roaming service offer requires no registration and will be automatically provided to Globe users. A confirmation message will be sent to customers advising them that the free roaming offer is ready for use.

We hope that through this immediate connectivity support, we can help our customers there contact their loved ones and cope in the aftermath of this temblor,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business.
