Globe accelerates 5G deployment with 256 new sites, expands global roaming presence

Globe continues to lead the charge in 5G technology deployment across the Philippines, successfully rolling out 256 new 5G sites for the first half of the year, as it solidifies its role as a driving force in the country’s digital transformation.

With this latest build, Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region (NCR) now reaches an impressive 98.45%. While in key cities across Visayas and Mindanao, Globe achieved a 5G outdoor coverage rate of 94.19%, underscoring its commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to more people, no matter where they are.

The 5G coverage expansion underscores Globe's ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of digital connectivity and empower Filipinos with faster, more reliable internet services.

In June 2024, Globe registered over 7 million devices connected to Globe's 5G network, a clear indicator of the growing demand for high-speed mobile data and the company’s ability to meet that demand.

Globe expands 5G roaming footprint, now available in 67 countries, territories

Globe continues to expand its 5G coverage around the world, with its 5G roaming service now available in a total of 67 countries and territories.

Globe’s 5G footprint now includes Austria, (T-Mobile), Malaysia (Digi), Macau (CTM), US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico (AT&T), Vatican City (Windtre), Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales (EE), Russia (Megafon), and Northern Marianas (Docomo Pacific).

The company has also partnered with more international telecom providers, including  Hi3G in Denmark, SFR in France, Windtre in Italy, T-Mobile in the Netherlands, Slovak Telekom in Slovakia, Salt in Switzerland, and  MEO in Portugal.

Globe dominates 5G speeds in one of PH's key business hubs

Leading digital solutions platform Globe emerged as the fastest 5G mobile network for the first quarter of 2023 in Makati City, a key business hub in the Philippines.

Based on Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® Q1 2023 data, Globe edged out its closest competitor with a median download speed of 171.814 Mbps from January to March this year.

Globe's 5G network expands to 237 sites in VisMin, connects more consumers and businesses

Leading digital solutions platform Globe expanded its 5G coverage to 212 sites in Visayas and 25 in Mindanao by the end of the third quarter in 2022, providing more consumers and businesses with improved connectivity and access to faster data speeds.

Globe 5G offers better browsing experience, 3X faster than mobile WiFi speed

Globe’s 5G speed is now three times faster than mobile WiFi, according to Ookla®  Speedtest Intelligence® data for the first quarter of this year.[1]

The leading telco and digital solutions provider logged a 5G median download speed of 121.29 Mbps versus the 42.95 Mbps booked by all fixed providers in the Philippines from January to March.

Ookla used the statistical validation approach called Hsu's Multiple Comparisons with the Best (MCB) procedure to identify how fast Globe’s 5G median download speeds are in comparison with mobile WiFi speeds.

Globe has attributed continuous improvements in mobile network speeds to steady investments in network upgrades and infrastructure development.

Globe expands 5G roaming footprint, onboards Netherlands, Bahrain, New Zealand

Globe has further expanded its 5G roaming footprint to include the Netherlands, Bahrain, and New Zealand as it continues to explore more partnerships in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific amid gradual economic recovery from the impact of the pandemic.

These latest additions cement Globe’s supremacy in the 5G space as it is now present in 43 5G roaming-ready countries. Just last month, Globe included Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and France in its list of roaming partners.

DITO pilots 5G fixed wireless broadband in selected areas in NCR

After close to one year in commercial operations, the newest major telco, DITO Telecommunity has begun the roll out of its 5G home WiFi offer through a pilot program in 146 barangays in Metro Manila.

Barangays in the City of Manila, Caloocan, and Quezon City will be the first to experience up to 500Mbps of download speed through the DITO 5G Home WIFI Starter Kit.

iPhones and Samsung devices perform fastest on Smart – Ookla report

Whether you are an iPhone fan or a proud Samsung user, you can only expect the fastest performance of your devices when connected to the Smart network, according to Ookla® the global leader in mobile and broadband intelligence. 

Based Ookla’s analysis of Speedtest Intelligence® data covering Q4 2021, iPhones connected to either Smart 5G or 4G/LTE network perform up to 1.8 times faster than iPhones on other network providers.

Globe is accelerating the rollout of its 5G-capable in-building solutions (IBS) to provide quality indoor coverage in key tourism-related destinations such as airports, shopping malls, and stadiums.  This is amid looser community quarantine measures given the steady decline in COVID-19 cases.

Smart reasserts dominance as the Philippines' Fastest 5G Mobile Network

PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is the country's fastest 5G network in the Philippines for the first half of 2021, according to the latest report by Ookla®, the global leader in internet testing and analytics. 

Smart has also reasserted its dominance as the Philippines' fastest mobile network for the fourth year in a row, based on analysis by Ookla of tests taken with Speedtest® covering the first half of 2021.  

Smart won the Fastest Mobile Network Award with a Speed ScoreTM of 44.70, a big leap from previous year where Speed ScoreTM was at 24.99, based on 4,949,931 user-initiated tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines for the period Q1-Q2 2021.   

Meanwhile, in the newly released Fastest 5G Mobile Award report, Smart notched the top place in the country with a Speed ScoreTM of 204.81, posting median download and upload speeds of 220.66 Mbps and 20.61 Mbps, respectively based on 237,142 user-initiated 5G tests taken with Speedtest in the Philippines for the period Q1-Q2 2021.

Opensignal: PH 5G download speed among highest in Asia Pacific region

The 5G experience in the Philippines continues to improve as the technology becomes more accessible to more customers all over the country.

According to the Benchmarking the 5G Experience-Asia Pacific June 2021  report by Opensignal, the Philippines’ 5G download speed is now at   141 Mbps[1], which is  among the fastest in the Asia Pacific.

The download speed is even faster than Hong Kong's 134.8 Mbps and Thailand's 122.5 Mbps.  Moreover, the country can go as fast as up to 426.2 Mbps as its peak download speed, also higher than Thailand and Hong Kong.  Compared to 4G, PH registers an improvement of about 10.4 times in terms of download speed on 5G.

80% of Metro Manila now with Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage

80% of Metro Manila can now experience 5G outdoor coverage, a result of Globe’s sustained and vigorous initiatives to modernize its network which allow its customers to experience the latest in telecom technology.

The company has upgraded 884 locations in Metro Manila into 5G-ready sites to make 5G service available to its customers. It will continue to install more 5G-ready sites all over the country.
