More Women Making A Mark In STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)

It's 2019 yet there are still a lot of things we need to work in our society specially the important role of women in development in the field usually dominated by men. We have already opened doors for women in many industries such as education, finance, and management, but in term of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (or STEM), the number of women may have been overlooked but they are now coming out to prove their worth and makes groundbreaking actions and discoveries in their respective specializations.

Why Is TV Not Showing Science-Oriented Shows?!

Drama, K-Drama, Variety, and Entertainment- these are the shows that dominate local TV and is watched by majority of the viewing public. I have also been to many of the presscons and launch parties of  TV networks for their upcoming shows but I always find the topic of science and technology missing.

Back in the 90's there was Sineskwela, Beakman's World and many other science-oriented shows which sparked my interest and made me want to be a scientist (inventor) back then. In today's TV, there is probably one or two from the big networks (Matanglawin, Oyayi, and AHA!) but they are only shown once a week compared to the daily shows which are shown just in time for morning kids to catch them.

Though I have nothing against entertainment shows, however it is a wasted opportunity to help the youth in being exposed to the sciences. There were reports and studies on the competitiveness of Filipinos in Science and Technology which the Philippines does not fair well (Check out the worldwide competitive ranking report by the DOST and PH Schools performance to the world stage). What we excel on nowadays are social media engagement, political and social ramblings, and a growing internet population with high demands for mobile connectivity. But Science was probably the option of many as we may look at it as "too intellectual" or "para sa mayaman lang yan".

It will be a #YearOfScience for XSTIG!

As we welcome 2016, I have made a personal declaration to devote it as the Year of Science! Yes, knowing more about how things work through the wonders of Science is something that we should grow this year aside from the entertainment and the politics that rule the internet. I guess it is time for us to be scientists and geeks about the world, the universe rather, around us.

Because if there was no science, there will be no progress in human evolution and civilization. Along with Art, science has been the greatest contributor for progress in humanity. Now that we reap the fruits of it (and probably more in the years to come), would it be fitting to educate the world with the beauty and diversity of science in many forms.

XSTIG 2014 To All!

I do have to admit that maintaining a tech blog is both competitive and tidious, however I am very optimistic that this year will be the year of more tech reviews, more science news and more information that many will love to read and discuss. The integration of a Online tech Channel via Okra Soup TV in Youtube will be experimental but will also be fun and innovative that will be built up and made more interesting with partners and (hopefully) sponsors!

XSTIG was made for those who love to talk about technology and other sciences, and this year we will also open our doors for contributors who will continue to make this a tech blog to watch this 2014. Yes, this is a promise as we have shifted to a new blog, a more comprehensive approach and more readers!

from your most XSTIG blog in the Philippines, Happy New Year!
